Basically, I wish I was a dinosaur, particularly a medium-sized theropod, but because I was born a human being in the 20th century I prey upon paper and computers for making animation (my life's other passion) instead of small mammals, reptiles and carrion. When I was younger I wished I could be a train engineer because steam locomotives fascinated me before I found out about the amazing world of natural history. I can probably recreate my first drawing, from when I was three years old, which I'm sure my mom has stashed away in an air-tight seal somewhere.

Choo-choo! Do you hear the steam engine's whistle blow? By steam engine I mean the crude assortment of geometric primitives assembled above. I wish I knew what my first dinosaur drawing looked like.
Currently, I am finishing animation school in Minneapolis and finding my footing in the vast wilderness of corporate America. My dream job would be to work for Pixar animation studios, or as a creative consultant on an animated television series. Character animation is my favorite line of work, but I'd be really excited if I got the chance to do storyboards and animatics for animated productions. Basically, if I didn't like drawing and cartoons so much, I'd probably have given up everything to be a paleontologist a la Alan Grant. However, I'd probably not have been cut out for the grittiness of that job because I'm funny about getting dirty, and paleontologists get quite dirty. But apparently they do a lot of their digging and geological research on computers now anyway, so I'm sure the paleontologist/dirt accumulation ratio has diminished in my favor over the past twenty years.
In any event, I gave up everything to make animation instead. Seriously, sometimes I am lucky to have such good friends in my life because I have essentially given over my life to my work the way monks give over their lives to their monasteries and chanting. We could go into all kinds of psychological and emotional analyzation about that, but it would probably make me less happy than just accepting that my life is what it is.
Dinosaurs and trains make great source material! Sorry for being such a huge nerd. I get excited about things that normally excite a seven-year-old.
When hunting in the wilderness, remember to stay very quiet, or the prospective employers might scatter and initiate their self-defense mechanisms.
